De Vroente

De Vroente is an educational centre that promotes and supports education and training on the environment, nature and sustainable development. It also serves as the visitor centre for the Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide and as an information hub for the UNESCO Scheldt Delta Geopark.

Accessibility for all

At De Vroente accessibility and inclusion are central.

Blind guided path Butterfly: The Butterfly Path (2.7 km) is specially designed for the blind and visually impaired. This path features tactile markings and a free app that provides audio information along the way.
Cadweazle: For people with a physical disability, De Vroente offers the Cadweazle electric all-terrain wheelchair, which can be used to follow the Rups footpath.
The Bug: The Bug is a non-electric terrain wheelchair for the trails Bos, Libel and Schaap. Suitable for sandy ground.

Both wheelchairs can be booked in advance via the online booking system.

Monday to Friday: from 9 am to 5 pm
At weekends and on public holidays: from 10 am to 5 pm
*From 1 October to 31 March, De Vroente closes at 4 pm instead of 5 pm.

Bee Expo

In the reception building you can also visit the Bee Exhibition Honey Traces. This exhibition tells you more about the centuries-long collaboration between man and bee.

You can find the entrance via Visit Kalmthout.
Groups can make an appointment for a one-hour guided tour.
Opening hours*:
The Bee Expo is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10am-17pm.
*During school holidays, the expo is open Monday to Friday from 10am-12pm and 1pm-17pm. From 1 October to 31 March, Visit Kalmthout closes at 4pm instead of 5pm.

Access

Access Gate De Vroente is easily accessible by bicycle, public transport and car. We encourage you to come to the gate in a sustainable way and enjoy nature.

By train: From Antwerp, Brussels, Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom, you can take a direct train to Heide or Kalmthout. From Heide station, it is about a 1.5 km walk to the gateway De Vroente. From Kalmthout station, it is a 2.3 km walk. Visit the website of NMBS For timetables.
By bicycle: The access gate is easily accessible by bicycle. There is a bicycle shed and a bicycle repair station.
By car: There is free parking at De Vroente, including some camper van spaces.
