That nature does not think or grow in boundaries is clear in Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. This nature reserve lies on both sides of the Belgian-Dutch border and covers about 60km². Yet the area feels borderless, endless. This is due perhaps to the great diversity in the landscape.
Among other things, the enormous diversity of this area of nature is of considerable ecological and cultural-historical value. Here, vast, untouched landscapes of heathland, fens, dunes, forests, meadows and polders unfold. Here, many visitors catch their breath, literally and figuratively, arriving on foot, by bicycle, mountain bike or on horseback. Here, rare plants and animals live in peace and quiet. Here, in short, so much life finds the tranquillity and favourable ground conditions it needs to survive. No wonder, then, that Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide is part of the Natura 2000 network that sustainably protects the most important nature reserves throughout Europe.
