After a challenging spring full of rain, the blue mountain bike trail near the Volksabdij is completely renewed and ready to be discovered! Due to water damage, parts of the trail had to be temporarily closed, but thanks to a diversion you could continue cycling. Together with the Grenspark Trail Builders, Natuurmonumenten, Bosgroep Zuid and the diocese, and thanks to the contribution of vignettes, we invested in a sustainable solution to the flooding. The trail has been shifted to higher ground and fitted with a 25-metre-long decking path over the wettest stretches. Concrete culverts have been installed at crossings, and the old trail is now handed over to nature. So you can explore the renewed trail to the full. Just be careful: the ground may still be a bit soft and there may be puddles here and there.
The yellow connecting loop has been given a fresh update. The start and info boards have new route maps, and the starting point has been moved from Familyland to MFC De Drieschaar. Some adjustments have also been made to make the route more accessible. At Volksabdij, the trail has been shifted to Flor van Puttedreef to avoid waterlogging. In addition, the trail at ANB now runs from Olmendreef instead of parking South. The latest route maps can be found on our mountain bike page. Plan your next ride here!
Good news for mountain bikers who like to go out well prepared! VisitBrabant Routebureau is working with the NTFU (Dutch Tour Cycling Union) on a classification system for MTB routes in North Brabant. Routes will be classified by difficulty level:
๐ข Easy | ๐ต Medium | ๐ด Difficult | โซ Very difficult
The 4 MTB routes in the Grenspark have also been classified. All routes were rated blue, with the exception of a red-marked, technically challenging section on the MTB route Wildernissen.
An overview of the Grenspark MTB trails:
๐ตMTB Staartse Heide route consists of half a singletrack and has minimal height differences. Due to the high singletrack percentage, the route falls into the blue difficulty level.
๐ตMTB route Volksabdij is mainly singletrack, with fast descents due to small drift dunes and some connecting sections over wide paths. The route becomes more challenging at higher speeds and includes an optional red drop for technical riders.
๐ตMTB route Stoppelbergen offers winding singletrack through dense forest, with playful height differences thanks to drifting dunes. A section overlaps with the Wildernissen route, giving a straighter line. Technical difficulty remains within the blue classification.
๐ต๐ดMTB route Wildernissen has a high percentage of singletrack and minimal height differences, except for a few points where height differences can reach 6 metres. The route contains some technical challenges, so this section is marked as difficulty red.
The new classification signs will be installed in January 2025.
