Well prepared on your way to the Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide
Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide presents its new digital visitors' map. In cooperation with the Dutch company Wolfmaps, an innovative map was developed that helps recreational visitors explore the park in a sustainable and clear way. The interactive map bundles all walking routes, cycle loops and mountain bike routes on one platform. In addition, visitors will find practical information on the accessibility of the park, highlighting sustainable transport options such as train, bus and bicycle, as well as highlights of the area.

"This map fits within the Grenspark's sustainability objectives," says Mattias Van den Bergh, project coordinator at Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. "By providing information on sustainable mobility options, it can encourage visitors to come to the park in an environmentally friendly way. At the same time, the map provides a clear overview of all experiences throughout the area. In this way, we can better spread visitor flows and give nature more breathing space."
This development is part of the European-backed Interreg project MONA, which is working on sustainable recreation and mobility solutions in nature reserves
Lukas Jacobs, chairman of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide: "The Interreg project MONA is of great importance for Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. It gives us the opportunity to put the area more strongly on the map. We are working on clearer branding, with recognisable entrance gates and a more visible profile in the streetscape. Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide is a leading nature reserve, and that should be seen - from the moment visitors enter the area. In addition, through MONA we are actively promoting sustainable mobility so that visitor experience and nature conservation go hand in hand. As Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide, with its various stations within a stone's throw of nature, we also have a huge advantage in this respect."
Local hosts and hostesses also in the spotlight
The park's hosts and hostesses also get a place on the map. Visitors will find information about places to eat and drink, accommodation options and other tourist services in and around the park, all operated by ambassadors of the Grenspark. Marjolein from the Aan de groene papegaai campsite in Hoogerheide is also enthusiastic:
"The digital map is a great addition to make Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide even more accessible for our camping guests, who can walk straight into the area from our campsite," says Marjolein.
Easily find your way on a hiking trail
The digital map is available via smartphone or computer, with no separate app required. Once loaded on a mobile device, the map can be used offline, which is ideal for use in the middle of nature. This allows you to immediately see where you are on the walking route during your walk and navigate easily. The map can be accessed via the Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide website or via QR codes on the welcome signs that can be scanned.
Grenspark walking network
Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide is an area of 6,000 ha of top nature. 28 signposted walks take you past dry heathland, fens, shifting dunes and woods. The walking routes are almost all completely unpaved and form an attractive network for visitors from near and far.
