This walk takes you to a unique area in the Grenspark, the Noordpolder. The Netherlands is known as 'flat' country, but here you can see that this is not always true. This abrupt rise in the landscape on your right is the Brabantse Wal and on your left is the Noordpolder of Ossendrecht. Most striking is the sharp transition from the higher sandy soils to the lower sea clay polders. This escarpment reaches heights of about 20 metres. It was probably created by erosion from the river Scheldt and by the sea. The transitions between high and low, dry and wet, sand and clay make this a unique landscape with unusual plants and animals. Walk among the fields with ditches and pollarded willows. Enjoy the view of this wet natural pearl from the panorama table and be sure to bring your binoculars. From here, you can have a good look for the pheasant, to which this route owes its name. All kinds of birds such as the marsh harrier, grey heron and many geese also feel at home here. In spring, flowers and butterflies provide a true palette of colours.
