On Tuesday 19 November 2024, 19 new hosts and hostesses received their Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide certificate. This certificate was awarded at the end of a four-day training course, during which the participants were extensively introduced to the nature reserve. No fewer than 16 companies from the region - on both the Flemish and Dutch sides - took part in this course. With this new batch, the Grenspark now has 42 certified hosts and hostesses, who fulfil a valuable role as ambassadors of the cross-border nature reserve.
A unique course for nature ambassadors
During the training, organised by Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide in cooperation with IVN Natuureducatie, entrepreneurs from the region delved deep into the unique nature, flora and fauna, history, and recreational opportunities of the 6,000-hectare Grenspark. The varied programme consisted of both theory and practice, through workshops, lectures, site excursions and assignments. Participants learned about the operation and management of the nature reserve and were inspired to share the knowledge gained with their guests.
Ambassadors from Flanders and the Netherlands
The new hosts and hostesses represent a diverse group of entrepreneurs from different sectors. Among them are: Stichting Titurel, De Gerda Hoeve, Stal Westerhof, Tuin- en Akkerbouwbedrijf Withagen, HVN 10, 't Greefsch Geluck, Heiderust, De Purperij, BikeAholic, Kempengoud, Operating Collective, vzw De Rommeshoef, Holistisch Centrum -OM, Un PEU d'O, Visit Kalmthout and holiday resort Bielebale vzw.
These entrepreneurs are committed to helping visitors find their way around the area. The growing network of hosts meets annually to exchange knowledge and experiences, and to work together to create a strong, sustainable tourism network.
Nadia from holiday home Bielebale vzw looks back on the course with enthusiasm:
"Through the course, I have met many new people and a wonderful cooperation has already developed around holidays for people who need light care. The personal stories and local insights shared during the course were particularly inspiring. I enjoyed it immensely!"
The course, now organised for the fourth time, contributes to strengthening regional tourism and nature conservation. Over the years, the Grenspark has proudly built up a diverse network of ambassadors, who actively promote the values of this unique nature reserve.
