A bridge to the past, a leap to the future
We inherit the earth from our ancestors and borrow it from our children. For centuries, people have been working to preserve special nature and history. Generation after generation takes care of the landscape. Each in their own way. They are stories of giving time and attention, stories of connection with nature.
On Wednesday 24 May, young and old will celebrate The European Day of Parks. Under the motto 'Building on our roots', parks will share portraits of different generations who have a special bond with the nature reserve with a joint action.
Portraits 'Building on our roots
In Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide, three portraits were made of people with their own unique story. They tell about their deep connection with the Grenspark. Meet Fred Severin, nature lover who conveys all his knowledge passionately as an enthusiastic nature guide. Be inspired by Linsy Verbraak, mentor of the Junior Rangers, who wants to convey the values of the area to young people. Or step into the world of Kiki Kempenaers, an inquisitive Junior Ranger who talks with a broad smile about the discoveries she makes with other youngsters in the Grenspark. The stories show how people, regardless of age and background, embrace the beauty and magic of the area. It inspires them to seek the connection with nature themselves.
