Pollinators in the lead role on World Bee Day 20 May
In and around the 6,000 hectares of nature of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide, pollinators such as bees, butterflies and birds play an indispensable role in maintaining biodiversity and species diversity. Almost 90% of the world's wild flowering plant species and more than 75% of our food crops depend on our hard-working pollinators.
On World Bee Day (20 May), we celebrate worldwide the importance of pollinators who maintain our fragile ecosystems. We therefore invite you to join us in reflecting on the importance of these important species and to discover how you yourself can contribute to a thriving ecosystem!
Activities:
- Join us on Sunday 26 May at Karrenmuseum in Essen and build your own 'wild bee hotel'! Especially for the wild bee, up to fifty free construction kits will be waiting for you at Karrenmuseum (gone = gone). You only pay the entrance fee to the museum and then get to work on your own. Drill, saw and hammer away and conjure up a beautiful hotel. So be quick and make our buzzing friends happy (buzz, buzz, buzz...)!

- Take part in one of the activities during Bee Week (26 May to 2 June), organised by Kalmthout Library, Natuurpunt, the Biegilde and De Vroente, Duurzaam Educatiepunt. Make your own lip balm from beeswax, visit De Vroente 's bee expo or admire a bee from very near. Discover the full programme here.
