On foot or by bicycle

On foot
Do you live nearby? The Grenspark has several starting points where you can start your walk. Discover all starting points and signposted walking routes on the visitor map of the area.

By bike
The Grenspark is perfectly accessible by bike. Cycling is sustainable, practical and fast! At the various gates and starting points you will find bicycle shelters where you can safely park your bike.

Cycle repair stations & bike charging points
In the municipality of Kalmthout, you will find cycle repair stations at various locations. Here you can make simple repairs or inflate your tyres. You will find them at De Vroente gate and at Kalmthout and Heide stations, among others. Essen station also has a bicycle repair station. In addition, there are several locations in Kalmthout where you can charge your bike at participating catering establishments. For a current list of these locations, check here.

Share bikes
The Grenspark is also easily accessible by share bike. At the various stations around the park, shared bicycles from Blue-bike and Donkey Republic are available.

Blue-bikes

With Blue-bikes, you can explore the Grenspark easily and inexpensively. Blue-bikes can be found at stations Essen, Kalmthout and Heide.

How it works:

  1. Register online: Create an account on the Blue-bike website or via the app. A membership of Blue-bike costs 12 euros per year. Each time you rent a bike, you pay only a few euros.
  2. Rent a bike: Upon arrival at your destination, you can easily rent a bike with your Blue-bike membership card or via the app.
  3. Enjoy your ride! The first 24 hours cost just a few euros.
  4. Return: Return the bike to the same station and place it in the Blue-bike parking.

Donkey Republic

Donkey Republic also offers share bikes at various locations that you can use to visit the Grenspark. You will find these bikes at stations such as Essen, Wildert, Kalmthout and Heide. There is also a drop zone for Donkey Republic bikes at starting point Stoppelbergen.

How it works:

  1. Download the app: Install the Donkey Republic app on your smartphone and create an account.
  2. Find and unlock a bike: Use the app to find a bike nearby. You can unlock the bike directly from your phone. No membership is necessary. You only pay per ride.
  3. Cycle whenever you want: Whether for a few hours or a whole day, you can use the bike for as long as you need. Costs start from a few euros per hour. Donkey Republic also offers several low-cost day packages via the app.
  4. Return: Park the bike at a Donkey Republic location and lock it with the app to complete your rental.

Mountain biking
For the sportier cyclists, four challenging singletrack mountain bike routes are available. These intensive trails are connected by a yellow connecting loop, allowing you to fully enjoy the technical challenges. Please note that an MTB vignette is mandatory for the four intensive mountain bike trails. All information on mountain biking can be found here.
