Welcoming course starts: 23 entrepreneurs learn more about Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide
On Tuesday 24 September, the fourth edition of the Hostmanship course was launched, organised in cooperation with IVN Natuureducatie. As many as 23 entrepreneurs from the region - from B&Bs and garden and arable farms to care institutions, wellness centres and tourism entrepreneurs - are taking part in this four-day course. The participants dive deep into the unique flora, fauna, history and workings of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide.
The first meeting took place at Hotel Jerom, which has hosted the Grenspark since 2018. During this meeting, the trainees were given an exclusive tour, culminating in a visit to the fire watchman's station of the fire and lookout tower at a height of 30 metres.
Three more inspiring area excursions are planned in the coming weeks, both on the Dutch and the Flemish side of the Grenspark. These excursions are complemented by fascinating workshops, in which participants learn how to optimally fulfil their role as hosts. Knowledge transfer on nature conservation and sustainable tourism are central to this.
Upon completion of the course, at the end of November, participants will receive the official title of 'Host of the Grenspark'. With their new knowledge and commitment, they will play an important role in preserving the nature reserve, while enthusiastically showing visitors around. The new hosts and hostesses thus join the national network of nature ambassadors.
