Nature celebrates!
During the weekend of 21 and 22 May, nature celebrates because:
- On 21 May, Natura2000 can blow out 30 candles!
- 24 May is European Day of the National Parks. On the Dutch side, Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide is part of the European Network of National Parks. On the Flemish side, the Grenspark is a candidate National Park Flanders.
Reason enough to go into nature yourself and explore!

Natura 2000 day
21 May is European Natura2000 day. Together with several partners, Natuur en Bos works around European top nature in a Belgian LIFE project: LIFE BNIP. A number of beautiful walks in our beautiful European valuable nature are on the programme. Put on your walking shoes and discover our European top nature in your neighbourhood!
Natura2000 is a European nature network that aims to ensure the future of hundreds of endangered animals and plants. It is the largest network of protected (nature) areas in the world, covering some 18% of Europe's total area and almost 6% of its marine area. This protects Europe's most valuable and endangered species and habitats. For more information, please visit the European Commission's website.
Bird watching with nature guide
Curious about which bird species occur in Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide? Hidde Bult, nature guide and volunteer bird monitor, will be happy to tell you all about it during an excursion in the beautiful nature in and around the Moretusbos on Saturday 21 May, at 8.30 am. Be quick, places are limited!

European Day of the National Parks
What would we be without nature? This year, European National Park Day on 24 May is all about the balance between people and nature. Reciprocity is key: enjoying nature in national parks while giving something back.
'On the trails BINGO'
The routes in national parks are marked out for a reason. They showcase special highlights of the area. It is precisely by letting these routes guide you that you see so much! That is why we literally send you on your way, with a bingo card, so that you start looking around with attention. Do you see lots of insects, blooming flowers and water nearby? Maybe a small or large mammal? Or do you see obvious traces of humans? Several themes recur on the bingo card, such as biodiversity, attention to the landscape and, of course, humans.
