Listen to 'Radio Kempenjoeng' with the Grenspark Junior Rangers!
Radio Kempenjoeng gives young people from the Kempen a voice with podcast series
Radio Kempenjoeng launches its very first podcasts, in which young people from the Kempen region have the floor. It will be kicked off by the Grenspark Junior Rangers, a group of committed youngsters who help manage the Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. Accompanied by Erfgoed Voorkempen and hosts Petra Vijncke and Wietse Chanet, they will share their stories about nature management, the three-star nature reserve and the Junior Ranger operation. The result? An honest and fresh sound from the Kempen, straight from the young people themselves, about their place in the region and their connection with nature.
Radio Kempenjoeng is an initiative of Erfgoed Voorkempen. Elisa and Jan co-founded the project. "Secretly, we really want to know what young people find important," says Jan, "and what binds them to the village or region where they grew up. Because what young people cherish today is tomorrow's heritage."
"But we also just want to offer young people a cool activity," laughs Elisa, "and something that is very accessible for schools and youth movements to plan."
From classroom to recording studio in two hours
Ilse and Jeroen are professional podcast makers who will set up a mobile recording studio with the youngsters at two hours and guide them in making their own podcast. "The best thing is if the group is a bit prepared," Ilse comments, "that makes the podcast stronger and gives the young people more satisfaction."
Although this preparation need not take much time. The young people (or their leaders or teachers) are given some discussion topics in advance for inspiration. They look for a studio guest to interview and think about possible questions. "It's not much more than that," Jeroen reassures, "with a minimum of preparation, you have an engaging activity or lesson with which you tick off a lot of learning objectives in one fell swoop."
Free thanks to the support of LEADER
"We are receiving financial support for this project from LEADER MarkAante Kempen +," says Jan. "That means we can offer workshops for free in the Voorkempen this year."
"We are also looking for volunteers," Elisa adds, "who in time can replace our professional radio hosts Ilse and Jeroen. Making podcasts is not rocket science. The most important thing is that you like being in front of a group and get on well with young people. The rest you learn quickly by walking along with the pros."
