Improvements to the MTB routes in Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide
This autumn, a lot of work is being done to improve the MTB routes in Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide, in cooperation with various partners. The routes, created several years ago, offer mountain bikers a sporty and challenging way to fully enjoy nature.
New decking for dry gear
Mountain bikers who love adventure do not shy away from height differences or a tough sandy stretch. The four singletracks offer exactly the challenge that many sporty local residents and visitors are looking for. Unfortunately, in recent winters, some parts of the trails have become too wet to remain rideable. While sufficient water is beneficial to nature, the mud made even experienced mountain bikers struggle to get through, with gears sinking deep.
Together with nature managers and MTB volunteers, solutions have been sought, with nature objectives being paramount. Draining water is not an option, as nature desperately needs the water. It was therefore decided to build a decking on the wettest part of the blue route. This wooden bridge will make the entire route accessible again.

Don't forget your vignette
These improvements are possible thanks to contributions from mountain bikers through the vignette. The income is used to purchase working materials for the volunteer team, maintenance and to realise larger projects like this one, among other things.
The vignette is compulsory on the four singletracks in the Grenspark (red, green, purple and blue route). More information on mountain biking in the Grenspark can be found on our website.

We thank our highly motivated volunteers, the Grenspark Trail Builders, who are responsible for maintaining the trails. Among other things, they take care of constructing and maintaining curves, keeping the paths clear and pruning. Would you like to be part of the Grenspark Trail Builders yourself?
