Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide takes an innovative step in nature management with Heidedrones, a project in which drones are used to better map and protect nature.
We use simple consumer drones to make monitoring more accessible, which also allows us to flexibly explore what works best. Using an online imaging platform, we can track changes in vegetation, monitor water surfaces and map the distribution of invasive species and litter. This helps us take quicker and more targeted action for conservation.
Besides nature management, we also want to make visitors, local residents and volunteers aware of the possibilities and limitations of drones in nature reserves. This way, we make sure the technology is used responsibly, with respect for nature and legislation.
