Agreement on strong partnership Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide

  • Wednesday 17 May 2023

Today, the members of the Special Commission of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide met to decide on the submission of the Master Plan for the candidacy National Park Flanders. This committee came to an agreement not to request a National Park label from the minister for the time being, but to continue the strong partnership around Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide.

More than 20 years of cooperation

In the Special Commission of the Grenspark, authorities, municipalities, nature managers and private owners from both sides of the Belgian-Dutch border are represented. Together, these partners strive for conservation, unity, a shared vision and commitment in the region. For more than 20 years, partners within this partnership have been working constructively together to perpetuate the balance between nature and recreation and to achieve objectives around conservation and protection of valuable top-class nature in our region.

Eye on the future

All members of the Special Committee agree that Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide as a partnership should be able to continue its efforts to broaden support. The Grenspark partners request the minister to provide continued financial support for the Grenspark 's years of operation.

"All partners see in the present Master and Operational Plan a strong basis for future collaborations. The work we have done over the past year with input from all stakeholders is not wasted. The Master Plan identifies needs and opportunities that we want to continue working on with all stakeholders. We aim to continue to sit around the table with all parties in the future to realise objectives. In doing so, the Grenspark partners also want to have the openness to add new partners, who have cooperated in the last year, to the operation," says Martin Groffen, chairman Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide.
