Discover the youth programmes at Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide: Libelhamels and Junior Rangers
Did you know that Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide runs its own youth programme for children and young people who love nature, adventure and the outdoors? Every school year, young nature lovers set out to explore the Grenspark in a fun and active way. They learn about the landscape, make new friends and share unforgettable moments in nature together.
From the first discoveries with the Libelhamel Club to the real ranger work with the Junior Rangers: there’s something for every age group to experience nature up close.
Libelhamel Club: adventures in nature (ages 6–12)
The Libelhamel Club is for children aged 6 to 12 who are curious about everything that lives and grows. During the school year, the children head out into the Grenspark once a month on Wednesday afternoons, accompanied by the Libelhamel guides.
Every activity is a new adventure. The Libelhamels go on a voyage of discovery in the woods and on the heath, search for plants and animals, learn the secrets of the landscape and experience nature with all their senses. Through playing, exploring and setting off together, their love of nature grows.
September 2026 marks the start of the 28th Libelhamel Year, with plenty of fun activities on the programme once again.
A few places left at the Donderbolken
The Libelhamel Club is divided into three age groups:
- Lantaarntjes: children in Years 1 and 2
- Water Explorers: children in Years 3 and 4
- Donderbolken: children in Years 5 and 6
The ‘Lantaarntjes’ and ‘Watersnuffels’ groups are now fully booked. There are still a few places available for the ‘Donderbolken ’.

Junior Ranger Club: budding young nature conservationists (aged 12–17)
For young people who want to explore even more after the Libelhamel Club, there is the Junior Ranger Club.
From September to June, the Junior Rangers set off on monthly Saturday morning excursions in the Grenspark. Accompanied by a forest ranger, they explore the area in a different way and learn what is needed to protect this unique natural environment.
Just like real rangers, they learn about typical plants, birds and other animals. They learn to observe and investigate, and also get stuck in during nature conservation activities. In this way, they not only build up their knowledge but also actively contribute to the preservation of the unique landscape of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide.
