The vast landscapes of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide hide a rich history full of fascinating stories. They are stories of people who have a deep connection with the area, of foresters who have seen nature grow and bloom, local residents who spent their youth here, and peace seekers who keep returning to 'their heath'. With the heritage campaign 'Stories of Heath and Far', we want to cherish and share these valuable stories and memories, not only through videos but also with a brand new podcast.
A journey through time and landscape
The 'Stories of Heath and Distance' campaign takes you on a journey through the history and landscape of the Grenspark. From romantic stories at picturesque fens to the vivid memories of local heroes, each story highlights a new page in the diary of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. The campaign already resulted in 5 diverse stories, released in the form of short films. You can re-watch the videos via the Grenspark website. As there are still countless stories waiting to be told, we will continue the campaign in 2024 as well.
First podcast episode: who was the very first shepherd on the Kalmthoutse Heide?
In addition to new videos, Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide is launching a brand new podcast within this series. The scoop of the podcast series is kicked off with a special guest: Kalmthouten native Frank de Roover, the very first shepherd to take the Kalmthoutse Heide under his wing. In a riveting episode, Frank shares his experiences and memories of the time when, together with his flock and dog Duck, he pioneered the heath.
"Verhalen van Heide en Verre is a valuable initiative to cherish the history of our beautiful area. It brings to life the rich stories of people who shaped the heathland and offers listeners a unique insight into our heritage," said Martin Groffen, chairman of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide
The podcast series 'Verhalen van Heide en Verre' can be listened to via open Spotify.
