Het Stappersven, one of Flanders' largest fens, is the perfect place for birdwatchers all year round. Whether you are an experienced birdwatcher or just want to enjoy the peace and nature, a guided birdwatching walk around the Stappersven offers something for everyone.
In the winter months, the fen provides shelter to an impressive number of wintering waterbirds. While looking over the water from the beautiful viewing platform De Kleine Stapper, you have a chance to spot ducks, geese and other waterbirds. Birds of prey also often migrate over this area, and with some luck you will get to see the majestic bald eagle, stretching its impressive wings over the fen.
In spring, the landscape changes and the forest edge brings a colourful palette of small songbirds. Get carried away by their melodies as you observe and listen to the many different species together with the guide. Each season has its own surprises and it is up to you to discover them - always in the company of an expert guide who will point out the most beautiful spots and the most unusual birds.
Be sure not to forget your binoculars, and let chance decide which birds you will spot this time!
