Species-rich Grenspark experience week!

๐Ÿšฉ Attention: increased fire risk
In the province of Antwerp, code red is currently in force for wildfire risk. Therefore, be extra vigilant and respect the guidelines.

  • Smoking and making fires are prohibited
  • Stay on the paths, do not go deep into the heathland

The guided walks stay on the edge of the area and take place in small groups accompanied by experienced guides. Many activities also take place outside the nature reserve.

From 19 May to 25 May, we celebrate nature in and around Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide! For a whole week, we put the incredible diversity of plants and animals in the spotlight. We seize four special moments to pay extra attention to the wealth of species in the area: World Bee Day on Tuesday 20 May, Natura 2000 Day on Wednesday 21 May, the International Day of Biodiversity on Thursday 22 May and the European Day of Parks on Saturday 24 May.

Reason enough to put nature in the spotlight. Together with our educational partners, we have put together an exciting programme. Go out with a nature guide, search for rare plants, build your own wild bee hotel or go on an insect safari. There is a wide range of activities for young and old to experience nature in a unique way.

Species Challenge: are you counting?

Within this week, you can also participate in a species challenge: together with the 21 Dutch National Parks, Agency for Nature and Forests and Natuurpunt, we will count as many species as possible in nature. All counts reported through the app ObsIdentify, via waarneming.nl or waarnemingen.be will count. The results of the species challenge in the Grenspark can be consulted via this link.

Would you also like to take part in the National Biodiversity Challenge in Belgium that week at the same time? That's perfectly possible! All you have to do is give a heart to the 'National Biodiversity Challenge 2025' in the Obsidentify app under 'Challenges'. That way, all observations will also be included in a larger Belgian Bioblitz. Two for the price of one, in other words! All info on this campaign can be found at www.weekvandebiodiversiteit.be.

Discover it yourself

To celebrate and admire all that natural beauty, you can take part in various activities focusing on biodiversity. Do you really want to experience nature? Below you will find all the activities you can participate in during the Experience Week. Please note that registration is required for some activities.
